#Thailand#Satun#La-ngu#Attraction Ban Bo Jed Luk is in Moo 1, Pak Nam Sub-district, La Ngu District, Satun Province. It is adjacent to the Andaman Sea. Most of the people are fishermen and merchants. The distance between the village and La Ngu District is 18 kilometers. Due to the village being located in the countryside, so the villagers are very kind and generous. They live a simple life and close relationship like family members. Guru (Islam scholar) who is proficient in Islam religion teach Islam religious doctrine which is villagers strictly followed in order to guide their life.
There are 788 populations from 190 households in Ban Bo Jed that are Islamic and 90% of them are fishermen which are use Hua Thong boats and the tools are seine and bamboo fish traps to do fishery. They catch aquatic animals such as mackerel, white sandfish, croakers, octopus, etc. around the coast and 5 nautical miles further. Besides, they make Sai (bamboo fish trap) and seine. The sailing relies on the natural phenomenon while the aquatic animal season determines the tools they will be used. The fishery here is natural conservation because each type of fishing tool is specific for each type and size of aquatic animal. For example, shrimp seine is only for big-size shrimp catching. The villagers live from hand to mouth but they are very happy because they can live among nature. Some of them do fish farms or shellfish farms such as grouper, sea bass, potato cod, and mussel. They do fish farming as an additional occupation apart from sea fishery which mainly generates income for the people but sometimes the price depends on the aquatic animal market price which is unstable.
Not much fishery between November to December, during this time, there is the east monsoon period, so aquatic animals are caught less than usual, so people grow watermelon as a part-time job. The middleman will come straight to the village to buy the watermelon from the villagers. The famous watermelon species are Kinnaree, Jintara, Tang Lai, and Dum Ka which people grow based on customer demand. The most popular species of watermelon is Kinnaree because the flesh one is red and sand texture with thick pulp and sweet taste, one watermelon weights about 5-7 kilograms. The price is 8-10 Baths per kilogram. People earn lots of money each year from selling watermelon. Some people grow vegetables together with watermelons such as cucumber, luffa gourd, white gourd, and cow-pea. Besides, some also feed cows in their area and village feeding area. There are 80 households in the village and they raise about 4-5 cows per house. They even form cow raising group with 40 members. There are many other part-time jobs such as general contractors, selling oysters, etc.
